Down is the light, fluffy undercoating at the base of the feathers of waterfowl. Down's multi-dimensional structure insulates by creating pockets of still air that retain body heat while remaining highly breathable and comfortable. Pound for pound, high quality down is the most efficient natural insulator there is. No synthetic surpasses the lightweight, compact-ability, and longevity of down.Marmot Down Quality:Higher fill power means higher loft, better insulation, lighter weight, and greater durability. Marmot tests all of their down for content, cleanliness, species, and fill power and guarantees minimum fill power for all of their down clothing and sleeping bags.Down Origins:Geese are raised primarily for food and the down that is derived from them is a by-product of the food industry. Geese are raised on large and small farms and roam free outside on these farms. This is their natural environment. They are not raised indoors in controlled conditions. Geese are grain fed and also have access to local plant life.Geese are generally harvested after 4 to 9 months for food. Some female geese are kept for breeding stock and are harvested between 1 to 2 years. These are the geese called the “mother birds” that provide the best, most mature down. After the geese have been harvested for food, the down and feathers are removed, washed, dried and then sorted by separating the down and small feathers from the larger, heavier feathers. These processing methods determine the final quality and fill power of the down. Marmot currently buys down primarily from Russia, Poland, and China.Marmot Guaranteed For Life:Since 1974, Marmot has guaranteed every product they’ve made for the life of the product. Marmot believes the best thing for everyone and the environment is to make products that last.

This vest feels kind of cheap, and the membrane holding the down in feels super thin and extremely easy to rip or damage. It was pretty light and warm and compressible, like all down clothing. When I received the vest new, there were already 2 spots where down feathers were halfway poked out. Anyone who has experienced this knows once you pull it out it just keeps coming out, leaves holes in the membrane, just overall not fun when this happens. I returned this vest, I'm not paying this much for this quality. My husband bought this puffy to layer, for an early start from Springer. We shared quite the adventure. He wore it every night in camp, until the weather warmed. Stuffed into a sac for pillow every night. Pulled it back out in the Whites, having not worn it for several hundred miles, and it was just as warm as ever. Never lost loft. An attached hood may have been nice, but we didn't buy a vest with a hood. A beanie worked fine. Light wt, well worth the volume.warm enoughIt is no worth the price. Very thin. Have found much heavier and warmer for far less. It did arrive on schedule. And is a great color.warm, and very light. Easily packs to minimal size. However it is not very durable...wear it to the office it won't hold up to the woods.I bought this vest to my husband for his birthday. He is so happy with this present, because the color is cool, the model is beautifull and is of good quality. I recommend it.Received this product on schedule. This Marmot Vest is light and warm, great for cool days hiking. Have other Marmot Jackets, but this one is wonderful if you have to pack light. Would buy another one.The arm holes are way too small. It looks and feels cheap. The one good thing is that it is thin enough to wear under a dress coat.
